O-1B for the arts uses a different evidentiary standard, and a different criteria count, than O-1A. This is preparation guidance, not legal advice.
USCIS's own wording: "distinction" — a level of skill and recognition substantially above ordinary, such that you are prominent, renowned, leading, or well-known in your field. You need at least 3 of the 6 criteria below.
Lead or starring role in a distinguished production
A principal or featured position in a production or event with its own strong reputation.
National or international recognition via reviews or press
Independent critical coverage of your work — not self-published content.
Lead or critical role at a distinguished organisation
Not just employment — a role central to that organisation's reputation.
A record of major commercial or critical success
Sales, attendance, ratings, or acclaim with real, checkable figures.
Significant recognition from experts or organisations
Recognition from people or institutions genuinely qualified to judge your field.
High pay compared to others in your field
Compensation demonstrably above typical peers, with real evidence.
